Humor in the time of Covid? Perhaps now more than ever, humor and laughter are needed to cope with the unexpected, the vicissitudes of life, and difficult times. The presentation will discuss humor styles and personality traits, integrate insights from areas such as psychology, sociology, and cultural anthropology to not only point to humor as a coping strategy, but to also illustrate the many other ways in which humor and laughter impact mental and physical well-being.

Rita Nnodim, Ph.D. graduated from Johannes-Gutenberg University, Mainz (Germany) with a Masters in African Languages and Literatures. She holds a PhD in West African Studies from the University of Birmingham, UK. She is an Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where she teaches courses such as Introduction to Cross-cultural and Social Justice Studies, Global Refugees of the 21st Century, Madness & Society, as well as her new class on Humor, Laughter, and Comedy. She has authored book chapters and scholarly articles on postcolonial anglophone urban fiction and regularly presents her work at national and international academic conferences.

Admission is $10 for OLLI at BCC, Massachusetts Village and Berkshire Museum members, and $15 for the general public.  Admission is free for Berkshire Community College students, youth 17 and under, and those holding WIC, EBT/SNAP, or ConnectorCare cards.
